Book Review: God’s Big Promises: The First Easter

by: Khalilah Shelton

God’s Big Promises: The First Easter written by Carl Laferton, illustrated by Jennifer Davison. Published by The Good Book Company 2024

Easter baskets are often filled with all types of goodies, from candy to coloring books. Our family isn't much of the basket type, but any family would be blessed to receive a copy of The First Easter from the God’s Big Promises series by Carl Laferton. My girls (ages 7 and 9) and I read through this book, and it was a hit! We loved the colorful pages, stickers and activities. As a mom, I think the greatest gift is the invitation to actually read the Easter story from the Bible itself. The scripture references go from Matthew chapter 21 all the way to Acts chapter 1. Each section of the book has a passage explaining a part of the Easter story, an activity, stickers and scripture references.

Most other activity books are heavy on the puzzles but do not tell a cohesive story. This IS NOT that!  The First Easter gives a complete story of Easter. I love the versatility of this book. The well thought out pages are filled with opportunities to connect with the story; great for an antsy child in a church service, a homeschooling parent, or to be used as a family devotional. The easy to trace letters allow children to interact with the text as well as practice handwriting, letter recognition and spelling.

This book is an overall win for us. I would recommend it for children ages 3-8. It's filled with truth, facts and fun!

Note: I received a free copy of this book from the Good Book Company in exchange for my honest review.
